Guides is the section that Brownies move to when they are 10 and is open for all 10-14 year olds to join.
There are currently 3 Guide units in Benton Division and they all meet once a week for one and a half hours.
Guides have more of a say in planning their programme and work towards badges and "Go-For-Its" to complete their Challenge badges every year. Guides do a lot of work in Patrols, where they choose their own Patrol Leader and what activities they will be doing.
Older Guides can take part in the BP Challenge and the Commonwealth Award. In Guides you can learn skills such as party planning, independent living and fire safety whilst having fun. While being a Guide it is also possible to gain some leadership experience by helping out with a local Brownie or Rainbow unit.
Guides also get the opportunity to take part in camps and residential events with the rest of their unit and even the chance to go abroad instead of staying in the country! At Guide camps and holidays Guides can take part in adventurous activities such as climbing, sailing, walking, canoeing, archery, crate stacking and often get the chance to meet girls from other units around a campfire! Of course, they can also go on a "city break" style holiday and visit the theatre and enjoy seeing new towns. As well as this they are able to go to the Big Gig - a huge pop concert held every year just for members of GirlGuidingUK aged 10+
There is a whole range of uniform for Guides which can be bought from the North Tyneside depot in North Shields, online at Guiding Essentials or other locations that the leader will let you know about.
All Guides say the promise:
I promise that I will do my best:
To love my God,
To serve the Queen and my country,
To help other people
and to keep the Guide Law.
The Guide Laws are:
